Od 3 kwietnia z aptek i sklepów zniknęły termometry rtęciowe. Unia Europejska chce w ten sposób zmniejszyć gospodarcze wykorzystanie tego niebezpiecznego metalu. Ale co zrobić ze starymi, czy uszkodzonymi rtęciowymi termometrami?
Na terenie Myszkowa nie ma pojemników przeznaczonych na odpady niebezpieczne. Co zatem robimy z uszkodzonym rtęciowym termometrem? Nietrudno się domyśleć, że zwyczajnie ląduje on w koszu na śmieci.
Najbardziej toksycznym związkiem rtęci, jest metylortęć, która bardzo szybko przenika do środowiska, a w szczególności do wody. Dlatego nie wolno wyrzucać starego termometru do ubikacji lub śmieci. Według Ministra Środowiska taki scenariusz jest bardzo prawdopodobny biorąc pod uwagę, że rtęć jest metalem ciekłym, który nieustannie paruje, a szklana obudowa termometru jest niezwykle podatna na uszkodzenia. Po wniknięciu do organizmu, rtęć kumuluje się głównie w mózgu i nerkach, a zatrucie tym metalem może spowodować m.in. niewydolność układu oddechowego, bóle głowy, wymioty i uszkodzenie nerek. W przypadku kobiet ciężarnych rtęć może spowodować uszkodzenie mózgu płodu, a nawet jego zgon.
Co zrobić z rtęcią?
W Częstochowie Urząd Miasta wspólnie z aptekami zajmuje się zbiórką rtęciowych urządzeń. Mieszkańcy Myszkowa, którzy chcą się pozbyć zepsutych termometrów lub starych rtęciowych ciśnieniomierzy, nie mają jednak łatwego zadania. Częstochowska Okręgowa Izba Aptekarska poinformowała nas, że apteki nie mają obowiązku przyjmowania zużytego sprzętu, bo muszą potem same pokryć koszty jego utylizacji. Pracownicy Sanepidu również nie zajmują się tym problemem i nie są w stanie powiedzieć, gdzie zepsuty termometr można oddać. Spośród wszystkich myszkowskich aptek tylko 2 wyraziły zgodę na przyjęcie przedmiotu zawierającego rtęć: apteka przy ul. Sikorskiego 53 ?c? i przy ul. Wolności 25.
